Answers to research questions:
-Q; When I was researching, many sources that I used said that they only did drama, tragedy, satyr and comedy plays. Did they do any other genres of plays beside the ones I just listed? For example, did they do plays based on true stories?
-A: To answer this question, no, They did not do other types of theater except for satyr, tragedy, drama and comedy because those are the main types of plays there are. They did do some based on true stories which would be in the tragedy section. For example, the play The Persians had no real plot, it was just reenactment of the Battle of Salamis. So some were real stories, but most drama and comedy plays didn't have true stories in them.
- Q: Who were the main Greek playwrights?
-A: There were many Greek playwrights but I think the best ones were Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. Aeschylus lasted from 525-425 B.C.E and wrote over 70 plays. That's a lot. In Greek theater, there used to only be one actor on stage but Aeschylus was smart enough to bring in more actors in plays. the most famous plays he wrote included: The Persians, Prometheus Bound, and The Seven Against Thebes. There were many more plays that he wrote of course those are just his most known ones. Aeschylus also first brought trilogy to Greek theater so he could show more detail. Sophocles was a Greek tragedian who lasted from 497-406 B.C.E and wrote over 123 plays. He wrote a very popular series of plays called The Theban Plays. The Bacchae was a famous play written by Eurpides. Eurpides lasted from 485-406 B.C.E and wrote over 90 plays. Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides are the three main Greek tragedians and playwrights.
